Anthony Bourdain was an American chef, bestselling author, and television personality. He rose to prominence with the 2000 book Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly. His screen credits include No Reservations (2005-12), The Layover (2011-12), Parts Unknown (2013-18), and the film The Big Short (2015). He was inducted into the James Beard Foundation Who’s Who of Food & Beverage in America in 2008. Anthony Michael Bourdain was born on June 25, 1956, in New York City. He was raised in Leonia, New Jersey. His father, Pierre (d. 1987), was a music executive, and his mother, Gladys, a New York Times editor. He had a younger brother named Christopher. Bourdain attended Dwight-Englewood School followed by two years at Vassar College. He completed his studies at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in 1978.

CAREER
Bourdain’s first job in the restaurant industry was as a dishwasher. He worked at various seafood restaurants in Provincetown, Massachusetts, while attending college. After graduating from CIA, he ran several New York City restaurants, including One Fifth Avenue, Sullivan’s, and the Supper Club. He was named executive chef at Brasserie Les Halles in 1998. Les Halles officially closed its doors in 2017 due to bankruptcy. As a writer, Bourdain’s first notable piece “Don’t Eat Before Reading This” was featured in the New Yorker in 1999. He followed up with the New York Times bestseller Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly (2000). His other publications include A Cook’s Tour (2001), The Nasty Bits (2006), No Reservations (2007), and Medium Raw (2010). He co-wrote the graphic novels Get Jiro! (2012) and Get Jiro: Blood and Sushi (2015) for DC Comics.

Bourdain’s travel and food series ‘A Cook’s Tour’ premiered on the Food Network in 2002. It ran for two seasons for a total of 35 episodes. Both seasons were released on Netflix in January 2017. Bourdain hosted No Reservations (2005-12) on the Travel Channel. The show ran for 9 seasons and won 2 Emmy Awards and a Critics’ Choice Award.
