Ada County resident loses $1,700 to jury duty scam

BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) - Ada County is warning residents to be on the lookout for jury duty scams.

Scammers call and pretend to be court or law enforcement officials. Then they demand payment for failing to report to jury duty.

According to an Ada County spokeswoman, an individual in our area lost $1,700 to the scam.

The Ada County Jury Commissioner is warning people to be wary if they get this kind of call.

What to do if you receive a suspicious call:

  • Hang up the phone
  • Do not provide the requested information
  • Notify the Jury Commission immediately or local law enforcement agency

What to do if you receive a suspicious email:

  • Do not open the email; move the email to your trash folder
  • If you opened the email, do not reply, and do not click on any attachments or links
  • Notify the Jury Commission immediately or local law enforcement agency
